Speech therapist as supervisor. Terminological and organizational challenges

Abstract

Supervision as a support and professional development method is a widely known activity, especially appreciated by practitioners. As the author’s research shows, the speech therapists subjected to the study, almost unanimously, agree that supervision is necessary for speech therapists. Despite this fact, Polish speech therapy lacks both: a terminological arrangement of supervision activities and formal and organizational requirements that would enable the education of speech therapists-supervisors.
The article highlights the need to introduce formal regulations regarding the certification of speech therapists-supervisors, presents a proposal for the definition of speech therapy supervision based on a comparative analysis of the concepts of supervision and intervision and presents the results of author’s research on supervision in speech therapy.
