The use of elements of the Rodolfo Castillo Morales method in the speech therapy of an 11-year-old girl with cerebral palsy

Abstract

The purpose of the presented research is to evaluate the speech therapy measures taken and determine how therapy using elements of the R. Castillo Morales concept influences the regulation of muscle tone, the development of primitive activities in the oro-facial-pharyngeal complex and the level of language and communication skills and abilities of a child with MPD. This paper is a case study of an 11-year-old girl with MPD and resulting resulting from it coupled disabilities (motor and intellectual). Based on the speech therapy examination chart proposed by D. Pluta-Wojciechowska, basic data about the child were collected, a detailed interview was conducted, anatomical and functional conditions were assessed, physiological breathing and during speaking were evaluated. Using the Test Rozwoju Językowego by M. Smoczyńska et al. passive and active language knowledge was assessed. The publication of M. Grycman Sprawdź, jak się porozumiewam was used to assess the communication skills of a child with complex communication disorders. The article characterizes the speech of people with MPD and speech therapy using the concept of Rodolfo Castillo Morales. Against this background, the results of our own research with an 11-year-old girl with MPD are presented. The results of the scientific analysis show the speech therapy diagnosis of the subject by using therapy with elements of the R. Castillo Morales method, describe the course of therapeutic interactions and the areas in which changes occurred. After using in speech therapy elements of the method of R. Castillo Morales, the study girl showed significant improvements in primitive activities, attention span, motivation for communication and speech development. The research results show that the use of elements of the R. Castillo Morales method in the speech therapy of a child with CP is justified and supports the child’s development in many aspect.
