Children with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome are the victims of many damages caused by teratogenic influence of alcohol during prenatal period. They have to face many difficulties in many aspects of llife, mostly in proper analysis and interpretation of hearing stimulus. Proper auditory processing is one of the crucial functions of hearing, which allows to distinguish sounds due to their characteristics. In this work the ability of children with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome of auditory discrimination has been measured and compared with control group. Children in both groups were in the development norm. The obtained results clearly indicated that children with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome have much lower capability of discriminating duration and frequency of emitted sounds - in comparison to children in control group. Difficulties in differentiation of sound characteristics may have negative effect on proper perception of speech sounds and music, auditory auto control which may result in speech disorder, incorrect analysis and auditory synthesis and learning abilities especially in writing and reading.
