Abstract

The following factors have been defined within the “big five” model of personality: neuroticism, extraversion, openness to experience, agreeableness and conscientiousness. The aim of the study was to determine these personality traits among chronically stuttering adults. The NEO-FFI
Questionnaire of Costa and McCrae was used to question 68 stuttering and 62 non-stuttering individuals. It was discovered that personality types differ much. People who stutter are characterized by conscientiousness, agreeableness and neuroticism, common openness to experience and their extraversion is within the average range. The study outcomes on their personality traits published in the literature are not conclusive. They do not allow to estabish the standard profile of personality traits among people who stutter.
